Natural gas transmission and distribution is crucial in delivering natural gas from the point of production (local production and imported) to end-users.
The transmission phase involves transporting gas through high-pressure pipelines over long distances which connect with the distribution system. The distribution system comprises lower-pressure pipelines that deliver natural gas to homes, businesses, and industrial facilities.
Natural gas is favoured for its efficiency, lower emissions compared to other fossil fuels and versatility in applications such as heating, cooking and powering vehicles. Natural gas is supplied to parts of Barbados, stretching from Port St. Charles in the north to Sam Lords Castle in the south of the island.
To date, BNECL has just over 21,000 active customers.
