The Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL) marked another significant step in its commitment to supporting education and investing in the next generation with its inaugural Powering the Future Scholarship and Transition Grant Awards Ceremony.
The ceremony was held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at the BNECL Head Office, Woodbourne, St. Philip and recognised 13 deserving young people, including three Transition Grant recipients who will be moving from primary to secondary school.
Officially launched in June 2026, the BNECL Powering the Future Scholarship Programme provided scholarships valued at $1,000 each to assist students as they pursue their academic goals. Two scholarships were specifically reserved for the children or wards of BNECL employees, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting its employees and their families.
Shortlisted candidates participated in a competitive selection process which included the submission of an essay followed by an interview.
Jadique Edward, daughter of Andrea Burnett-Edward, who will be continuing her studies overseas
Chaya Griffith, daughter of Kisha Griffith, who will be attending university overseas
Ja’Quan Brome, who will be attending the Barbados Community College
Javid Seifert, who will be attending the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology
Joshua Phillips, who will be attending university overseas
Jaden Johnson, who will be continuing his studies at the Barbados Community College
Nicholai Downes, who will be continuing his studies overseas
Arianna Hurley, who will be continuing her studies at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus
Caleb Mofford, who will be continuing his studies at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus
Romarr Corbin, who will be entering Upper Sixth at The St. Michael School
The ceremony also included the presentation of three Transition Grants to the children of BNECL employees who recently completed the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination.
