The Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL) is pleased to announce that the Minister of Energy & Business, the Hon Lisa Cummins has appointed Mr. Donald Austin as its new Chairman. Mr. Austin brings a wealth of experience, having served in senior leadership roles across the telecommunications and financial services sectors throughout the Caribbean.
Sharing his thoughts on his new role, Mr. Austin said: ““It is a privilege to be offered the opportunity to work with the Minister, Board and the teams of the Company. I feel energised already having met with the Board and some of the management team. I see a highly efficient, financially viable organisation working for the benefit of all Barbadians and the region where possible. I look forward to the future with a great deal of optimism.”
Mr. Austin will be supported by Deputy Chairman Dr. Asquith Thompson and Board Directors: Mr. Paul Scott, Mr. Peter Thompson, Dr. Erwin Edwards, Mr. Carlton Cummins, Ms. Lachmi Connell, Mrs. Stephanie Catling-Birmingham and Ms. Dawn Williams.
In addition, the Board comprises the General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Business, or their nominees.
The appointments took effect from September 1, 2025 .
