As Barbados continues its transition to renewable energy, while preparing to search for offshore oil and natural gas, a new chief executive officer (CEO) has been appointed at the state-owned Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL).
Michael Sargeant, a Barbadian executive with extensive international energy leadership experience, has been in that post since September 15, BNECL announced yesterday.
Sargeant has almost four decades of international experience spanning the traditional and renewable energy sectors, including senior executive and technical leadership roles across the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Asia and other international markets.
“Ours is an exciting and increasingly complex environment. I look forward to building on the BNECL group’s impressive accomplishments and further strengthening its position as a leading energy provider,” Sargeant said following his recent appointment.
“By operating efficiently and embracing diverse energy solutions, we can help improve the quality of life for Barbadians, support national growth and contribute to a more secure, reliable and affordable energy future.”
BNECL said the former global leader with Shell held several senior positions with that company, including vice president for the Americas, global operations manager and global technology commercialisation manager. (SC/PR)
