The playing field at the Barbados National Energy Company Limited came alive on Friday night with thrilling digs and powerful spikes when BNECL held its inaugural Charged Up on Grass Volleyball Tournament at Woodbourne, Christ Church.

Just over 70 boys and girls carrying some unique names put on a show for the large crowd of family members and volleyball fans who turned out at the well laid out venue to take in the action.

From the glowing flood lights on day one to yesterday’s continuation from early in the morning, the action was gripping while comical at times as some of the players tried to find their range on a grass court for the first time.

One of the favourites The Girlies with national players Carah Watson, Sierra Rayside, Caitlin Gaskin and Michaela Beckles started well with a 21-17 win over Rotation IV and got past the Defense Babies 21-14.

Another possible winner among the girls Ctrl Alt Defeat crushed Bajan Ballers 21-11.

Ctrl rebounded to crush Volleyball Dolls 21-8, with Saja Heat burning ChewBlockers 21-9. Earlier Volleyball Dolls added to ChewBlockers misery 21-11. Heat also roasted the Volleyball Dolls 21-10.

Bad Knees among the men lived up or down to their name falling to Ya Must Scud 17-21 and the same 17-21 to Touch Grass. Plan B worked against Ya Must Scud 21-14, with No Jumpers leaping over Y2K And Beyond 21-14. Plan A was equally successful beating Y2K 21-11.

Eight women’s teams and six men’s squad took part in the tournament which ended yesterday. The women teams were Defense Babies, Ctrl Alt Defeat, The Girlies, ChewBlockers, Bajan Ballers, Rotation IV, Saja Heat and Volleyball Dolls. The men were Touch Grass, No Jumpers, Ya Must Scud, Plan A, Y2K And Beyond and Bad Knees. (KB)
